These are high quality, almost creamy feeling pigments that have great shimmer and color payoff. The packaging is great too… They all screw together so it’s easy to stash in your makeup drawer or travel with. It’s nice that MAC offers these in sets with colors that go together so well because it makes putting a look together super easy and fun!
All of these Crushed Metal Pigments will apply brighter and more intensely if you use a dampened brush. To do this, I shake a small amount of pigment onto a palette/piece of wax paper/whatever, lightly spray my brush with Fix + Spray, then dip the brush into the pigment and apply. You don’t ever want to get the pigment in the pot wet, as it will change the consistency and can become a breeding ground for bacteria (yuck).
The three limited edition Crushed Metal Pigment sets are $34 each, which is a great deal considering that it comes with four pigments per set, where normal sized pigments are $20 each! You don’t get as much in these sets, but trust me, you will probably not even use up this whole thing over the next 5 years. A little bit goes a long way! Some of these sold out faster than others, but you can get what’s still available at any MAC store, counter, or online at www.maccosmetics.com.
Strawberry Patch is a bit brighter than the last Crushed Metal Pigment set I reviewed. If you’re into pinks, this one is for you! I typically find it difficult for everyone to pull off wearing pinks, but this set is universally flattering. Since it’s all bright and shimmery, it’s really fun for spring and summer. Even if these aren’t quite in your comfort zone, you may want to give them a shot anyway and play around with some color since it’s such a good value!
Star Crystal: This is a very shimmery “pink champagne” color. I like this best as a highlight under the brow or on the inner corner of the eye since it’s so light, but it also works as a lid color if you’re going for a lighter, more natural kind of look.
Rose Light: MAC describes this color as a “metallic yellow pink”, meaning it’s a pink, but a warm pink rather than a blue or cool pink. I love this color all over the lid or a little bit in the crease with Star Crystal all over the lid. Since it’s a light, warm pink, it’s flattering on everyone!
Strawberry Patch: Strawberry Patch is a “light blue pink”, so this pink has cooler undertones to it compared to Rose Light. It’s a little bit more bold and darker, so it makes a great lid or crease color. I also like to swipe this color below my lower lashline with lighter colors like Star Crystal and Rose Light on the lid.
Moon Rose: This is a “bright dark pink” and is the deepest color in this set. It’s almost like a deep, warm rose/cranberry color. It’s great for a pink smokey eye if used all over the lid. It can also be used to add dimension in the crease or as a liner along the lower lashline.
